How to Get to Linz?
The most frequent ways to get to Linz are by plane, by train or by car.
Linz is also well known for the bike path along the Danube that goes from Passau (in Germany)
to Vienna. Moreover Linz is located along the Danube, an important stream within the
European waterways.
- By Car: Linz is almost in the middle of the freeway A1 from Salzburg to Vienna
(140 km to Salzburg and 200 km to Vienna).
-
Take freeway A1 (from Salzburg to Vienna or vice versa) until "Knoten Linz"
-
Take freeway A7 from "Knoten Linz". Follow the signs in the direction of
"Freistadt, Prag" (about 15 km).
-
Get off at the exit "Linz-Dornach".
About 2 km before the exit "Linz-Dornach" the freeway crosses the Danube.
-
If you want to go to the University (Conference Venue) cross the traffic light
and go straight ahead after leaving the freeway. About 500m later you see the campus
on your left hand side.
If you want to go to the Hotel Sommerhaus (Raab-Heim) turn right at the
traffic light and go on about 500m. Just before passing underneath the freeway (big bridge)
turn left and follow the small street until you reach the Hotel Sommerhaus on your
right hand side (about 10 floors, a big tower in the southern part of the building).
- By Train: When arriving by train at the main train station, there are 2 possibilties
to get to the conference venue or to the Hotel Sommerhaus - either by taxi or tram.
-
Tram: There is a good connection by tram between the main station and the
Johannes Kepler University Linz. There is a tram every 5 to 7 minutes and it takes about
30 to 45 minutes. The price is at 20 ATS (1,5 Euro) for a single ticket (MIDI) or 40 ATS
(3 Euro) for a one day ticket. You can buy the ticket at special ticket machines at
the stops (usually coins and bills are possible).
Take Line 3 at the main train station and change to Line 1 (direction "Universität"
- last station on the line). You can change the tram at the first stop ("Blumauerplatz"),
but you do not need to hurry. Line 1 and Line 3 use the same track through the center of Linz.
The latest possibility to change is "Rudolfsstrasse" (right after crossing the Danube).
Go on until the last stop "Universität". Now see Conference Venue.
-
Taxi: You find the taxis right in front of the train station, price is about 140 ATS, 10 Euro
to the Johannes Kepler University Linz or to the Hotel Sommerhaus.
